I have always loved Julia Cameron’s concept of the “Artist Date" — it is such a wonderful way to nurture creativity and reconnect with our inner artist. It's all about setting aside time to do something that sparks your imagination and brings you joy.

Julia articulates that by making a regular commitment to go on these "dates" with yourself, you're prioritizing your creative well-being and allowing yourself to explore and grow as an artist. It's a form of self-care and self-expression that can have a profound impact on your overall happiness and sense of fulfillment. Over the years, I have found this activity to be incredibly impactful and I am inspired to share it here, with a twist. I am inviting you to join me on my perfect day, living and breathing the artist within me, in Mexico City. Allow me to paint you a portrait of Mexico City and share my go to’s that awaken my creative spirit.

Ideal for morning musings: 7-11am

Quiet coffee at Cafe Nin: I like to sit at the counter bar, the interiors of this space are rich with texture and ornate details — it is the kind of space that reminds me of the way things “used” to be made. The hustle and bustle of the kitchen, the brass hardware finishings, the way the light creeps in from the trees lining the street. Order the guava roll with an americano, and you’re welcome. Also, remember Anaïs Nin (after whom this cafe was named) was a fascinating writer and diarist, known for her deep introspection and exploration of the human condition. Her words continue to inspire and challenge us to think more deeply about our relationships and our place in the world. She said, “dreams pass into the reality of action. From the actions stems the dream again; and this interdependence produces the highest form of living." This nook is a perfect space to reflect on your dreams and slowly come into the rhythm with the day.

A Japanese Hideaway can be found at Raku: I love anything tiny — I always have. Raku is a 10 square meter coffee shop that started in the most basic way—with one coffee machine. This space is simple, humble, and absent of distraction. Order a tamago sandwich, bring your journal (the brown French paper gets me every time) and maybe a sumi pen.

The perfect coffee corner of niddo: I love going here with a friend, we grab coffee some ridiculously delicious pastry, and perch on the little benchs. Niddo is both a coffee grab and go spot as well as a full restaurant which Conde Nast calls, ”achingly cute” they known for their plant filled patio and cakes laced with flower petals.
